For a long time things were so bad. Very bad. Dark even when there was light. The only thing that kept the dark back was the Forever Shiny Thing that was her secret... It is a word...the word hangs on a silver chain. The word is HOPE.

About This Quote

I’ve just finished reading the book, The Forever Shiny Thing by Margot Elizabeth Hayes. It was a great book filled with hope, love, and courage. It was about one girl who had everything she ever wanted most days of her life. She was happy, pretty, rich, and her life was perfect except for one thing; she never liked to go to school.

So she kept herself busy with other activities like bike riding and reading books. She spent most of her time at home with her stepdad. Her stepdad taught her how to read and he would read her stories over and over again.

This is where the book takes a turn; the moment she turned thirteen years old her stepdad died in a car accident. Now, you would think that this would be the time where she would become sad or unhappy but the opposite happened. She became happier than ever before because now she had something more important than anything else in the world; Hope.

She knew that after all these years of not having it something so beautiful could finally come into her life. This is when you really start to see that there is no black or white in this world but instead there are infinite shades of gray that everyone has to learn on their own without anyone telling them what they should do or what they should think about their lives. Before this girl comes into my life, I never thought about what I wanted out of life but now I know it all because of what happened to me.
